But unless it’s just something wearing back in, it has to go back, because something is rubbing.

Some people like that...

When/where do you notice the rubbing?
![]() 01/09/2019 at 11:05 |

Front suspension, just driving down the road, not accelerating. The suspension came off, so I called and asked, and they said it’s *probably* settling back in.

I see you didn’t use your thumb to cover your plate.
I too like to live dangerously.

Settling back in? Haven’t heard that before.

... you really need a new dealer.

Settling out is more likely..
I swear that 4runner is looking better and better.

Did you have them upgrade a metal oil pan while they were in there?

I’d love it if you asked them what’s settling in and you provided us with their answer. This is modern car with modern suspension, not a eastern block Lada There is nothing to settle in, unless they’re hoping that whatever is rubbing will just rub off.

No.

There are rubber bushings and such.

Yep

Nope, still not. I like being able to take the highway, and corners.
![]() 01/09/2019 at 11:23 |

I dunno. I’ve never had a car in which the entire front end had to be removed.
![]() 01/09/2019 at 11:28 |

yea, you need a new dealer...god dam, its a oil pan not a transmission bearing.

That thing has struts in the front, which just mount into place. There’s no settling involved. Brand new springs will sometimes compress a bit, but they shouldn’t make noise or rub on anything. Also, any noise while driving on straight on a flat road most likely isn’t suspension related. They have to take any pullies off?

highways are boring..

Yes, the timing cover had to be removed.

An oil pan that requires the trans to be dropped to replace.

Sorry to hear about the troubles, I really love that car! “settling back in” sounds like a bunch of malarkey to me. I bought my 2004 STi with about 6k on the clock and something was rubbing/rattling around in the front . It sounded like the struts, so I told them that and took it in. They gave it back saying it was just the spare tire that wasn’t tight enough...Obviously I had to take it back, and they said “oh yea, we just had to tighten up the struts a little bit...
![]() 01/09/2019 at 11:37 |

There are, and they shouldn’t be “settling”.
![]() 01/09/2019 at 11:39 |

I do love the car, which is what makes this even more annoying.

I bet the timing cover was over tightened and is rubbing on the timing belt (I did that on an E30 once). The belt will eventually rub a groove in the cover, and stop making noise. So yeah, “settling”. Not good for the belt, though. Idle the car and see if you can hear it with your head in the engine bay. Also have someone rev the engine. Could be one of the pullies making noise too.

No noise at idle, it really only makes noise occasionally, and while rolling.

Also, it’s a chain.

Because there are two pans, an upper one and a lower one.

That’s incredible. What was the issue that took you to the dealership originally? Just an oil leak?

Settling suspension components don’t make rubbing sounds. Take it back.
![]() 01/09/2019 at 12:41 |

It’s a chain and it has a timing cover? I’m used to BMW timing chains, which are housed in the engine case. You have to remove the valve cover to get to them.
Yeah, probably not that. Wonder if you got lucky and also have a bad wheel bearing?
![]() 01/09/2019 at 12:55 |

I’m back. They also installed an engine cover tab wrong, so...
![]() 01/09/2019 at 12:55 |

It was not like that before I dropped it off, so unless I’m incredibly unlucky...

The upper oil pan was faulty, apparently.

![]() 01/09/2019 at 13:38 |

Yeah, it’s weird. If it only does it when the car is rolling, it makes me think it is wheel/axle related.

The suspension is just settling and the engine is just getting out oil it doesn’t need.
